My Top Ten Mac Annoyances

1) No Photo Editor: No Paint or Irfanview counterparts. How is one supposed to function without these?

2) 'Set As Desktop Wallpaper' absent: This is how you set something as a desktop wallpaper. First you save the picture in some folder. Then you go to System Preferences> Desktop & Screensaver. Add that folder. Scroll down to the picture. Select. Voila! Your job is done.

3) No 'cut' in Finder. Yes you heard it right. Finder is the Mac counterpart of Windows Explorer/ My Computer. Apparently is a 'safety feature'. You can drag the file from one folder to another instead. Gah! It sounds silly, but try dragging files with the trackpad. It requires utmost concentration and control.

4) Grab saves as .tiff. Why do people take screenshots? To share it. Blogger doesn't support .tiff. Photobucket doesn't support .tiff. What do I do with a .tiff file? Plus, there's no photoeditor to convert it. So I use Quicksilver. Can you beat that? You have to download an add-on to share a basic screenshot.

5) Safari sucks.

6) Too many option keys. First you have fn, then you have control which is only on the left side of the keyboard and not on the right, then there's option which is also known as alt, then finally there is the command key, also known as the apple key. Phew!

7) You're in Finder. You want to open a file. Intuitively you hit 'Enter' . But no! Enter is to rename a file. To open you say command+O. Obviously Apple thinks people rename files more than open them.

8) The delete key doesn't delete a file. It took me so long to figure out how to delete (I had to Google 'delete file in Mac'). It's command+delete. WHY? Why not stick to simple old intuitive 'delete'? Especially when your OS is famed to be so intuitive.

9) There is no restore in Trash. Couple
that with no cut and it's agony. You have to locate the folder where you trashed it from, keep both folders open and drag the file from trash to the folder.

10) Maximise function is redundant. It doesn't maximise anything. Don't ask me why. I see no logic either.

PS:
Inspired from Chris Shiflett's post.

PPS: In case the art distracted you from my post, head on to Wordle.

Having no experience with mac, I'll redirect this post tomorrow to a friend who has a macbook (whoo, all white! so cool-looking though :D ) ... But I must say, no cut, weird delete... but I'm sure there are many features which are better than windows. ;)

And the wordle is amazing. :)

Frankly the post wasn't for me, the fossilized dodo.

Sad to see everything computer related is dubbed tec or tech,
which makes us old fools think it is science or engineering related... which it never is!

I've heard some Mac users swearing by it, just as VW Beetles or our own Ambassador car users will swear by the product and say no other cars are cars... users of Harley Davidon bikes often say the Japs don't know how to make cars.

Such freaks are 'fanatics' in my mind... easily placed amongst the ranks of KKK, RSS, VHP, Bajrang Dal and SIMI et al. May their breed die out soon.

Since I can't understand this jingoistic business, sadly, I can't see why they keep shouting from the rooftops.

Thanks. I loved the quotes on your page.
That was eye-candy for me.

Cheerz!

MAC is too rigid. It's approach is much worse than Windows with it's "Take it or leave it" attitude. Personally, i find the "Copy and Contribute" approach provided by Linux much more refreshing. There's freedom there to explore and grow. If i am not happy with a certain feature, i can easily change it. Embrace OpenSource. I haven't used either Mac or Windows in eons, so i may be wrong.

Also, why dont you go for any black-on-white theme rather than white-on-black for this blog. I feel it makes reading easier. Btw, fantastic effort on the matter published, kudos to you.
